“NEW RACE DIRECTOR NAMED AT HICKORY SPEEDWAY”
Newton, NC……… Hickory Motor Speedway Track Management announced the appointment of a new Race Director for their 2008 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series events.
Tony Wilson, of Conover, NC, will be the 2008 Race Director. Wilson has worked with Hickory Motor Speedway for the past few years as a NWAAS Tech Official. He started his racing career in Florida in 1987 as a crew member of a race team, then began driving in 1989. He competed in many different divisions at tracks across Florida, then moved to North Carolina in the Fall of 2004. With a “hands-on” background in both driving and officiating, he brings valuable experience to the job, and welcomes the challenges that come with the demanding position.
2007 HMS Race Director Jason Sherrill will be returning to his “first love”: The Flagstand. Regarded as one of the best short-track Flagmen in the business, Sherrill was picked this year to flag the “Bailey's 300” Late Model Extravaganza at Martinsville, VA. With a demanding “day job” and a busy family life, Jason looks forward to a less stressful raceweek.
2007 HMS Tech Director Paul Deyo will take on the duties of Chief Steward in 2008, in addition to his Tech Director's position. Chief Steward is responsible for all rules, rulings, personnel, and race day scheduling.
2007 marks the 58 th consecutive season of racing at Hickory Motor Speedway.
