By: Julie Buckner

(8-31-13)- Hickory Motor Speedway celebrates the running of the 37 th Annual Bobby Isaac Memorial Presented by Paramount Auto Group tonight with the Bojangles Late Models racing for 150 laps, the Paramount KIA Limited Late Models racing for 50 laps, the Street Stock racing for 30 laps and the Sportsman Racing Classics racing for 25 laps. The Champion for the Sportsman Racing Classics division will also be decided tonight.

First out for the event would be the Paramount KIA Limited Late Models for their 50 lap feature. The #51 of Jeremy Pelfrey would be the fast timer followed by the #09 of Kyle Mansch. Pelfrey would lead early with the #7 of Travis Byrd following closely behind him. On lap twenty-four the #94 of Ben Ebeling would spin on the backstretch. On the restart the #25 of Allen Huffman would have problems and several cars stacked up behind him. On lap twenty-nine the #43 of Kenneth Pardue would spin in turns one and two to bring out the second caution of the night. On the restart the #21 of Monty Cox and the #15 of Sheflon Clay get together going into turn two, putting them both to the back of the field. At the restart it would be three wide as the competitors were working to improve their position as the laps were winding down and it would be hard racing all throughout the field. On lap thirty-six the caution would come out for the #29 of Mitch Walkers spin on the backstretch. Caution would fly again on lap forty for debris on the racetrack. On lap forty-two there would be contact entering turn one with the #75 of Landon Huffman receiving substantial damage to his car and collecting several others including the # 95 of Nicholas Wilt. They would be done for the evening. At the checkered flag it would be Pelfrey, the #00 of Shane Lee, Byrd, Mansch and the #12 of Evan Duggins.

The feature race of the night would be the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Bojangles Late Models for 150 laps of racing action. The #77 of Jeremy Sorel would lead the thirty-one car field to the green flag with the #14 of Mike Darne starting second. Darne would lead the first lap, but it wouldn't take Sorel long to find his way to the front. The first caution would wave on lap six of the event when the #25 of Matt Piercy and the #21 of Annabeth Barnes would make contact, collecting the # 11 of Dillon Houser. All cars involved would continue and restart at the rear of the field. By lap fifteen the #12 of Austin McDaniel would move into the lead, followed by the #80 of Blake Jones and the car of Darne. On lap forty-nine the #7 of Taylor Stricklin and the #10 of Jake Keaton would get together to bring out another caution. The #5 of Ronnie Bassett Jr. would take advantage of the caution to bring his car to the pits for adjustments. Meanwhile, Houser had retired for the night. The red flag would be brought out on lap fifty-three to re-position the field. On lap sixty-five the #00 of Shane Lee and the #8 of Reid Lanpher make contact collecting several cars and ending the night for Lanpher and Piercy. On lap one hundred nine the #44 of Dillon Bassett and the #71 of Ashley Huffman bump, but both drivers would regain control of their cars and continue battling for position. The #41 of Ben Rhodes would slow on lap one hundred sixteen to bring out the next caution with damage from an earlier incident. On the restart several cars would bunch up causing the #6 of Will Gallaher to go around. Caution would wave again on lap one hundred thirty-four when the #77 of Rafael Vallina, and the #25 of Brayton Haws make contact in turn 2. McDaniel and the #8 of David Garbo would resume the battle for the lead. Garbo would eventually take the top spot. The final caution of the night would come out on lap one hundred forty-six when the car of Lee would cut down a left front tire and come to a stop in turn 4. Garbo would lead them to the final green flag setting up a four lap sprint and taking the checkered flag followed by #80 Blake Jones, the #77 of Jeremy Sorel, the #40 of Brodie Kostecki who would be three wide with contact at the line and the #88 of Josh Berry would round out the top 5.

The Hickory Motor Speedway Street Stock division paid tribute to Donnie Harmon who had recently passed away unexpectedly. Donnie was a part-time racer in this division and was competing for the track championship in the K and P 4 Cylinders. The street stock drivers had a very moving tribute to honor their fellow competitor with the #3 out front for the pace laps and taking a final checkered flag. Donnie's #3 car is driven tonight by his dear friend Baron Kuritzky. The #03 of Kevin Eby would claim the pole for the Street Stock event followed by the #64 of Marshall Sutton. Eby and Sutton would race side by side for several laps until Sutton would take the lead on lap four. The #75 of Danny Gibson slowed on lap seven and came to the pits. On lap ten the #9 of Jon Austin would pit as Eby would move ahead of Sutton for the lead. On lap sixteen the #74 of Kim Smith had mechanical problems and would stall on the back stretch to bring out the caution. On the restart Eby maintained the lead leaving Sutton and the #33 of Mark Whitten to battle behind him. The #14 of Sam Thompson retired for the night on lap twenty.

Meanwhile, the #3 piloted by Baron Kuritsky on this special night was charging to the front. The #16 of Jonathon Smith began battling for second position with Kuritzky and at the checkered flag it would be Eby, Kuritzky, Smith, Whitten and Sutton.

he Sportsman Racing Classic were the last event for the night with the points leader of the #2 of Don Fenn leading them to the green flag followed by the #6 of Jeff Melton. Melton would take the early lead from Fenn. On lap two Fenn and the #71 of Steve Davis would make contact coming out of turn four. The #48 of Larry Benz would move into the lead while Fenn, Davis and the #71 of Bryan Thomas were three wide for second behind him. Davis would take the lead on lap six with Fenn in hot pursuit. Fenn would move past Davis for the lead and take the victory and the points championship for the Sportsman Racing Classics. Davis was second, the #8 of Bob Hapeman was third, Benz was fourth and the #16 of Bill Webb
