Dillion Bassett Goes Two for Two In the

"Paramount Kia Challenge Championship Race"

(Newton, NC - - April 13 , 2014) Fans came out in droves Saturday night to watch Dillon Bassett pick up the victory in the second round of the Paramount KIA Big 10 Racing Challenge featuring the Bojangles' Late Models during AT&T Night at the Races. Other divisional winners included, Evan Duggins in the Gold King Limited Late Models, Spencer Boyd in the Super Trucks, Marshall Sutton in the Street Stock division, Matt Elledge in the 4-Cylinders and Jeffery Melton in the Bench-Built Transmissions Sportsmen Racing Classics.

Josh Berry brought the 25-car Bojangles' Late Model field to the green flag during the second round of the Paramount KIA Big 10 Race Challenge. Berry pulled away from the competition during the early laps leaving the remainder of the field to stretch out single file. The No. 44 of Dillon Bassett displayed speed during the early laps climbing into the top three from a 10th-place starting position by lap 10. The first caution of the event came out on lap 31 and was followed by multi-car pile up and a red flag during the restart. As green-flag racing resumed, the No. 00 of Shane Lee took over the lead, but fell back to second on lap 34 when Bassett settle into the top spot. The No. 88 of Garrett Jones and No. 9 of William Byron used the momentum from Bassett to work around Lee and settled into second and third, respectively. Bassett held on to the lead as cautions continued to litter the remaining laps, picking up the win. Byron, the No. 75 of Landon Huffman, No. 21 of Travis Swaim and the No. 36 of Anthony Anders rounded out the top five.

The No. 12 of Evan Duggins started the 35-lap event for the Gold King Limited Late Models from the pole position, but was challenged early in the race by the No. 5 of Dexter Canipe Jr. As the early laps ticked away, Duggins remained out front while Canipe received pressure from the No. 15 of Sheflon Clay as they battled for the second spot. Action picked up during the final 10 laps as Canipe challenged Duggins for the lead, the two competitors made contact coming out to turn two, bringing out the first caution of the race on lap 27. Despite the contact, the two drivers managed to remain out front and restated the race in first and second place. Another pack of cars connected on the following lap, sending multiple cars hard into the outside turn one wall, forcing NASCAR officials to display the red flag for extensive track cleanup. Canipe was displayed as the leader when the field returned to green and survived multiple caution periods during the final laps only to receive one final challenge from Duggins with two laps remaining. Duggins took the checkered flag, while Canipe settled for second. The No. 1 of Trent Barnes, No. 9 of Charlie Watson and the No. 18 of Casey Pierce finished third through fifth, respectively.

The No. 09 of Spencer Boyd guided the Super Truck division to the green flag for the 35-lap event, but quickly fell to second on the first lap when the No. 15 of Mark Johnson took over the top spot and created a sizable lead over the competition. The first caution waved on lap eight after the No. 5 of Derrick Mathis spun in turn one, stacking up the field for a restart that allowed Boyd to regain the lead and pull away from his fellow competitors. Boyd remained out front during the final laps to capture the win. Johnson, the No. 7 of Whitney Lail, No. 9 of Lee Queen and the No. 77 of Tai Davidson rounded out the top five.

Seasoned Street Stock veteran, the No. 64 of Marshall Sutton, led his competition to green during the 30-lap event but had to contend with pressure from the No. 33 of Mark Whitten who looked for an opportunity to take the top spot. Sutton utilized lap traffic to create a sizable lead over the field. A competitive battle ensued behind the race leader between Whitten, the No. 22 of Ben Ebeling, No. 16 of Jonathan Smith and No. 03 of Kevin Eby during the final laps for position. Ebeling managed to collect a second-place finish bring along, Smith, Eby and the No. 10 of Kevin Townsend in tow to complete the top five.

Chase Pollard, driver of the No. 98 4-Cylinder, started the 25-lap event from the pole position, but relinquished the top spot on the first lap to the No. 99 of Matt Elledge. Pollard kept pressure on Elledge in an attempt to regain the lead, but spun out on lap nine heading out of turn two, bring out the first caution. Elledge restarted form the top spot, and remained out front while Pollard worked his way through the field after restarting from the back of the pack, and settled into second by lap 10. Elledge went on to pick up the win, while Pollard the No. 11 of Robert Trivette, the No. 17 of Curtis Pardue and the No. 6 of Rodney Trivette completed the top five.

The Bench-Built Transmissions Sportsmen Racing Classics hit the track for a 25-lap event with the No. 6 of Jeffery Melton leading the way. It didn't take long for the competition to string out as Melton continued to pace the field around America's Most Famous Short Track. Melton went on to lead all 25 laps leaving the No. 98 of Shane Bradford, No. 2 of Don Fenn, the No. 48 of Larry Benz and the No. 74 of Bob Park to complete the top five.

The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series will take a break next Saturday, April 19 as the PASS Super Late Models invade the Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars for the Easter Bunny 150. Time trials begin at 3:30 p.m. ET with the feature events scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., tickets are $20 for adults. NASCAR racing will return to Hickory Motor Speedway on Saturday, April 26 for round three of the Paramount KIA Big 10 Racing Challenge featuring a 100-lap event for the Bojangles' Late Models.
