Bassett Closes the Gap in the Paramount KIA 

"Big 10" Chase for the Championship

(Newton, NC - - August 20, 2014) Dillon Bassett drove to Victory Lane Saturday night during the 100-lap Paramount KIA "Big-10" Race to the Championship feature event for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Bojangles' Late Models. Taylor Stricklin (No. 7 - Gold King Limited Late Model), Kevin Eby (No. 03 - Street Stock), Whitney Lail (No. 7 - Super Trucks) and Chase Pollard (No. 98 - 4-Cyliders) also earned the chance to celebrate in Victory Lane as the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series hit the track for Hickory Motor Speedway's 64th Anniversary Celebration presented by Coca-Cola.

The No. 9 of William Byron earned the pole position for the Paramount KIA "Big-10" Race to the Championship. Byron led the field around America's Most Famous Short Track until lap six when the No. 88 of Josh Berry moved to the top spot of the running order. Berry remained out front while the No. 25 of Matt Piercy moved into second. Meanwhile, the No. 44 of Dillon Bassett was steadily moving through the field from his eleventh place starting position until he took the lead near the half way point of the race. Bassett remained out front until the checkered flag waved over the field collecting the win. Berry, Piercy, the No. 45 of Dalton Sargent and the No. 5 of Bret Holmes finished second through fifth, respectively.

Taylor Stricklin (No. 7) earned the pole position for the Gold King Limited Late Model event, and spent the early laps battling with the No. 18 of Casey Pierce for position, surrendering the lead on lap 12. The two continued to battle each other for top position until the final lap when Stricklin pulled back to the front of and collected the win, leaving Pierce to settle for a runner-up finish. The No. 1 of Trent Barnes, No. 21 of Monty Cox and the No. 12 of Evan Duggins made up the remainder of the top five.

The No. 3 of Chase Pollard picked up the pole position for the 30-lap Street Stock event. Pollard led the 18-car field around the short track as the No. 03 of Kevin Eby worked his way toward the front of the pack and began to challenge for the top spot by the midway point. Eby used a restart on lap 20 to his advantage to take over the lead. As the final laps ticked away, Eby and Pollard battled for position trading the top spot back and forth. On the final lap, Eby nosed ahead of Pollard picking up the win. Pollard, the No. 31 of Wayne Edwards, No. 16 of Jonathan Smith and the No. 18 of Cody DeMarmels made up the top five.

The No. 09 of Spencer Boyd took the green flag from the pole position for the 35-lap Super Truck race an remained out front until lap 17 when the No. 9 of Lee Queen moved into the top spot. Queen remained out front until a lap-29 caution for a spin by the No. 15 of Zach Hale . Under caution, Queen and Boyd made contact, forcing both trucks into the pits. As the field returned to green-flag racing, the No. 7 of Whitney Lail was scored in the top position where she remained until picking up her first win at The Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars. The No. 77 of Tal Davidson, Queen, Boyd and Hale rounded out the top five.

The No. 98 of Chase Pollard brought the field to green in his second event of the night for the 4-Cylinders race. As soon as the green flag waved, Pollard took the lead for all 25 laps of the caution-free event. Pollard was followed at the finish line by the No. 00 of Eddie Gilbert, the No. 99 of Matt Elledge, the No. 28 of Dennis Trivette, and the No. 98 of Rob Lewis to complete the top five.  

Another night of short track racing is on schedule for Saturday, August 23 as the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series take to the track for Red Roof Night at the Race. The evening will feature Twin 50-lap events for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Bojangles' Late Models and appearances by the Gold King Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, and the Wrench Rags Renegades. Grandstands open at 5 p.m., with qualifying immediately following. An On-Track Autograph Session is scheduled to begin at 6, with feature racing action taking place at 7. Tickets are just $11 for adults, $9 for seniors and teens, with children 12 and under free.
