Lee Celebrates in Victory Lane at the Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars

(Newton, NC - - August 2, 2014) Shane Lee drove to Victory Lane Saturday night after leading all 50 laps of the feature event for the NASCAR Whelen ALL American Series Bojangles' Late Model division. Mark Johnson (No. 13 Gold King Limited Late Model), Kevin Eby (No. 03 Street Stock), Spencer Boyd (No. 09 Super Trucks), Matt Elledge (No. 99 4-Cyliders), Charlie Neil (No. 2 WrenchRags Renegades) and Robert Hapeman (No. 8 Bench-Built Transmission Sportsmen Racing Classics) also earned the chance to celebrate in Victory Lane as the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series returned to Hickory Motor Speedway for Sams Club Night at the Races.

The No. 9 of William Byron picked up the pole position for the 50-lap NASCAR Whelen ALL American Series Bojangles' Late Models feature event. Byron's time in the lead was short lived as the No. 00 of Shane Lee took over the top spot on the first lap. As the race progressed, and the field stretched out, Byron remained close to the back bumper of Lee looking for the opportunity to resume the position out front. Lee survived two restarts following caution periods on his way to earning the win. Byron settled for second, while the No. 23 of Payton Ryan, No. 12 of Austin McDaniel and the No. 25 of Matt Piercy rounded out the top five.

Mark Johnson (No. 13) earned the pole position for the Gold King Limited Late Model event, and went on to win the 35 lap caution-free event. As Johnson paced the field, the competition battled for positions behind him. Johnson drove to Victory Lane, bringing along the No. 7 of Taylor Stricklin, No. 18 of Casey Pierce, the No. 1 of Dylon Wilson and the No. 1 of Trent Barnes to complete the top five.

The No. 31 of Wayne Edwards earned the pole position for the 30-lap Street Stock event, but was penalized and sent to the back of the field after officials felt he had jumped the start twice on the way to taking the green flag. By default, the No. 10 of Kevin Townsend was moved to the front of the pack and took the initial green flag from the first position, but fell back to second on the first lap after the No. 3 of Chase Pollard took over the top spot. Pollard remained out front until a late-race caution stacked up the field and allowed the No. 03 of Kevin Eby to move to the front of the field and pick up the win. Townsend make a last-lap move that allowed him to pick up a second-place finish, Pollard finished third and the No. 64 of Marshall Sutton was fourth. Edwards worked his way up in the running order and salvaged a top-five finish after the early setback.

The No. 9 of Lee Queen took the green flag from the pole position for the 35-lap Super Truck race but surrendered the top spot on lap five when the No. 15 of Sheflon Clay pulled into the lead. The first and only caution of the race waved on lap 11 when the No. 09 of Spencer Boyd came to a stall on the track coming out of turn four. Under caution, Boyd was pushed into the pits for his team to assess the issue and he returned to the track before the field returned to green. Boyd worked his way through the pack and moved into the lead with three laps remaining. Boyd went on to pick up victory, leaving the No. 15 of Sheflon Clay, Queen, No. 7 of Whitney Lail and No. 36 of Tyler Dayton to finish second through fifth, respectively.

The No. 98 of Chase Pollard brought the field to green for the 25-lap event for the 4-Cylinders. As soon as the green flag waved, the No. 99 of Matt Elledge shot to the lead and began to drive away from the field leaving the competition to battle for second. Pollard quickly fell back in the running order and pulled into the pits on lap 4. Elledge went on to lead all 25 laps of the caution free event and left the No. 28 of Dennis Trivette, the No. 00 of Eddie Gilbert, No. 17 of Curtis Pardue and the No. 6 of Rodney Trivette to finish second through fifth, respectively.

The No. 2 of Charlie Neil led his WrenchRags Renegades competitors to the green flag before going on to lead all 20 laps of the event. Several drivers jockeyed for position throughout the event, but it was the No. 8 of Kenneth Roberts, No. 4 of Greg Austin, No. 09 of Blake Walker and the No. 77 of Shawn Hayes who completed the top five.

The No. 8 of Robert Hampeman started the 25-lap Bench-Built Transmissions Sportsmen Racing Classics race from the pole position and quickly pulled away from the competition. The first and only caution was displayed on lap five when the No. 48 of Larry Benz and the No. 16 of Bill Webb made contact going into turn two. As green-flag racing resumed, Hampeman once again created the lead over the field and went on to pick up the win. The No. 74 of Bob Park, No. 90 of Dennis Hinkle, Benz and the No. 71 of Bill Powell completed the top five.
