Tyler Ankrum wins the Calico Coatings Fall Brawl
Presented by Finish Line Heating & Air

(October 24th 2015) -After 8 months of racing and only a few events left on the Hickory Motor Speedway calendar, the longest event of the year, and the longest in recent memory, rolled around with the running of the Calico Coatings Fall Brawl presented by Finish Line Heating & Air. The event would feature 460 total laps of action packed racing across 6 different divisions with the eventual winners ranging in age from 15 to 79!

The first division to hit the track would be the Classic Sportsman racers with their powerful vintage hotrods. After finishing the regular season in a tie, CSRA co-champions Bill Webb in the #16 and Don Fenn in the #2 seemed destined to battle it out one last time to close out their 2015 season. Webb would hold off the hard charging Fenn to grab the victory and end his season on a high note. Fenn would come home with 2nd, Dennis Hinkle in the #90 would cross the line in 3rd, William Powell in the #71 and Eddie Gilbert in the #95 would round out the top 5.

Next up at the Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars would be the Wrench Rags Renegades with their Advance Auto Parts 50 lap special which would feature a halfway break to allow for refueling and tire pressure adjustments. Darren Dickinson in the #6 would pace qualifying with the #69 of Ben Campbell starting just to his outside. Dickinson would set the early pace as Campbell would be close in tow. Charlie Neill in the #2 would make a charge and grab the lead at the halfway break with Dickinson 2nd. As the call was made for the cars to return to the track several were unable to re-fire their machines, including Neill and Campbell, who would lose three laps before finally entering back into the fray. Neill would once again start making his way towards the front but officials brought him to pit road when they noticed fluid leaking from his car and Neill would be unable to make the necessary repairs. Dickinson would grab the checkered flag and the win with Greg Austin in the #4 finishing 2 nd , Kyle DiVanna in the #71 would bring home a 3rd, Campbell would bounce back to finish 4th and Danny Crump Jr. would round out the top 5.

The T-Mobile Limited Late Models would roll off next for their 100 lap special. After finishing off a great regular season with the track championship, Travis Byrd in the #77 would grab the pole on his fast time with Kyle Mansch in the #17 starting to his outside. Mansch would jump to the lead after several laps of battle with Byrd. As other battles raged throughout the field, up front Mansch seemed to have things well in control, and then the cautions came. The yellow would fly and bunch the field after a cut tire would send Mitch Walker in the #29 for a spin. This would allow Brandon Grosso in the #47 to line up to Mansch's outside for the restart. Mansch would get a good restart and jump back to the lead. Another caution a few laps later would bring a new player into the mix, Charlie Watson in the #9. Watson started shotgun on the field and had worked his way to the front to give Mansch one final battle for the win. The two would fight it out with Watson getting by and driving on to the win. Grosso would also sneak by Mansch in the closing laps for 2nd. Mansch would finish 3rd, Byrd would come home in 4th, and Mark Johnson in the #13 would round out the top 5.

The 4-Cylinders would grace the track next. Dennis Trivette in the #28 would pace qualifying and lead the field to green with Curtis Pardue in the #00 to his outside. Dennis Trivette would set sail driving and take control of the race. Pardue would keep the leader in his sights but couldn't catch him as the laps clicked off. Dennis Trivette would go on to take the checkered flag and his first victory in the 4-Cylinders at Hickory Motor Speedway. It was also an emotional victory lane as Dennis and family were joined in the celebration by his dad, Robert Trivette. Pardue was able to hold on for the 2nd place finish. Rodney Trivette in the #11 would grab the 3rd finishing position, Candice Tucker in the #31 would come home 4th, and Robbie Trivette in the #11 would round out the top 5.

With 210 laps of the scheduled 460 laps already completed for the night, the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Bojangles Late Models would roll off next for the Calico Coatings Fall Brawl 200 lap feature presented by Finish Line Heating & Air. Jake Crum in the #8 would set fast time for the event followed closely by Josh Berry in the #88, Myatt Snider in the #2, and the #00 of Shane Lee. Unfortunately Snider's car would lose fire and be unable to start the race. The green flag would see Crum and Berry mix it up to see who would pace this tremendous field of Late Models. Crum would eventually nose ahead to take the top spot leaving Berry to mix it up with Lee, the #19 of Chad Finchum, and the #58 of Tyler Ankrum. All would eventually take their turn at the top spot but Berry would fall victim to mechanical problems and have an uncharacteristic DNF, falling out during the first 100 lap stretch. Finchum, in his first run at America's Most Famous Short Track, would get the opportunity to flex some muscle and lead a few laps until an engine failure would end his night. Lee and Ankrum would battle hard to the halfway break. Lee would make it to lap 100 first so he would lead the cars down pit road, for the midpoint intermission. Each team would have 10 minutes to change 2 tires, add fuel, and make other needed adjustments.

All competitors would answer the call to return to action as Lee would head back to the point with Ankrum to his outside. After battling for several laps Ankrum nosed into the lead over Lee with Crum also looking to get back to the front spot. 2013 Hickory Motor Speedway Track Champion Austin McDaniel would show some muscle and jump up to 2nd to make a challenge on Ankrum for the lead. Eventually the handle went away and McDaniel would fall back a few positions. Ankrum would continue to lead and go on to grab his first win at the Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars. After attempting to reel in Ankrum over the final laps Crum would fall just a little short and grab a hard fought 2nd. Lee would finish the night in 3rd, Kate Dallenbach would post her career best HMS finish in 4th, and the Limited Late Model winner from earlier in the night, Charlie Watson in the #5, would round out the top 5.

The final race on the night would be the Smokey's Super Trucks and their 50 lap feature. Sheflon Clay in the #15 would lead the field to the green flag with Tyler Dayton in the #36 to his outside. After missing out on the 2015 Smokey's Super Trucks Track Championship by a scant 2 points, Clay seemed to be a determined to seek redemption, driving to the front and holding the point. A mid race caution was brought out when long time competitor Johnny James in the #5 had a single truck spin on the front stretch. The field was bunched back together for the restart. Clay once again shot to the point but after a few laps was joined by a new challenger, the #51 of Allen Huffman. Several times it appeared as if we may be in store for a photo finish as Huffman would peek to the inside but Clay would have just enough forward bite coming off the corner to keep him at bay. Clay would hold off Huffman and grab the checkers and return to victory lane. Huffman would take a hard fought 2nd after starting from the rear as a result of a broke shock bolt that led to not posting a time during qualifying. 2015 Smokey's Super Trucks Track Champion Tyler Dayton would finish 3rd, 14 year old Dawson Cram would grab 4th after starting 10th, and the #17 of Jason Grant would round out the top 5.

Hickory Motor Speedway has just a few races left in the year. This coming week, November 1st, will see a rare Sunday race as the CARS Tour comes to town for the Liberty 300 and the MTP Tire Double Duty Dare. A hard working driver has the opportunity to walk away with an additional $40,000 and a lucky fan may go home with an additional $10,000! Then on November 21st Pass Racing brings the Mason Dixon Meltdown to Hickory Motor Speedway.
