Piercy Savors Victory for Hickory Daily Record Night at the Races

It was a beautiful night at Hickory Motor Speedway for Hickory Daily Record Night at the Races for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series competitors and the fans would not be disappointed.

In the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Bojangles Late Model 100 lap feature the #75 of Landon Huffman would pace qualifying and lead the field to the green flag. Starting alongside of Landon would be Shane Lee in the #00. They would be followed in the second row by the #25 of Matt Piercy and the #5 of Dexter Canipe Jr.. In the early laps Lee would challenge Huffman for the top position but would eventually have to fall in behind, as Huffman was strong in the early laps. Canipe Jr. would work his way around Lee moving into 2nd and relegating Lee to 3rd, with Piercy close behind in 4th. As the battles raged through the field Lee would work his way back to 2nd and move by Canipe Jr., as would Piercy for the 3rd position, with Canipe falling to the 4th position and the #22 of Dan Moore riding in 5th . After a spin on Lap 50, the field would tighten up with the ensuing double file restart. As the green flag fell, Huffman and Lee would battle side by side for the first lap back under green and looked as if they would continue that battle until contact between the two would take them both out of contention for the night. Huffman would pit for a right front tire but Lee would make contact with the wall and need the services of the track wrecker. Huffman would return for a few laps but would eventually return to pit road for the a night. This would set up another double file restart with Piercy at the point, and Canipe Jr. to his outside, Michael Faulk in the #5 and Dylon Wilson in the #1 would make up row 2. As the field returned to green, Piercy would have the advantage and Canipe would have problems going into turn 1 with an apparent cut tire that would end Canipe Jr.’s night. However, 2nd place now belonged to Faulk who had worked his way to the front and began to pressure Piercy over the next forty laps. Piercy would eventually pull away from the hard charging Faulk in the last 10 laps to bring home his first win in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Bojangles Late Models. Faulk would make it to the checkers in 2nd, Wilson in 3rd, Christian Eckes in the #82 would grab 4th, and the Moore would come home 5th in his first return to Late Model action in 2015.

The always exciting T-Mobile Limited Late Models would see familiar front row fast timers, the #77 of Travis Byrd and the #2 of Zach Bruenger, who would also come into the night as 1st and 2nd in points. Jake Ruggles in the #29R and Monty Cox in the #21 would start from row 2. The event began with hard racing through the field and a door to door battle over multiple laps for lead between Byrd and Bruenger. A late caution with 5 laps to go would set up a late restart and a dash for the win. Contact late in the race between Byrd and Bruenger would result in the top 3 positions taken out of contention for the win as Ruggles was swept up as well. Spencer Boyd
in the #48 would eventually grab the victory in the hard fought race. The #13 of Mark Johnson would finish 2nd, Jeremy Pelfrey in the #51 would snatch 3rd, the #14 of Ryan Repko and the #29 of Mitch Walker would come home 4th and 5th respectively.

The Smokey’s Super Trucks would put on a good show with side by side battles for the lead much of the race. Lee Queen in the # 10 would take the early lead while the #09 of pole sitter, Dakota Ratcliff would do battle with Sheflon Clay in the #15 for 2nd. Queen would take the checkers and make the trip to Victory Lane. Ratcliff would come home 2nd, Clay in 3rd, Tanner Long in the #45 would be 4th , and Tyler Dayton in the #36 would round out the top 5.

The exciting Street Stock division would begin with the #2N of Charlie Neill at the point. Neill would take the lead with a battle between the # 2 of Larry Mosher and the #64 of Marshall Sutton swapping paint for 2nd. The # 03 of Kevin Eby would be in hot pursuit behind Sutton. Neill would take the checkers with Mosher close behind for 2nd. The #10 of Kevin Townsend would make his return to Hickory with a 3rd place. Marshall Sutton in the #64 and Kevin Eby in the #03 would bring home 4th and 5th respectively.

The 4-Cylinders would see pole sitter Eddie Gilbert in the #00 take an early lead with the #16 of Michael Tucker in hot pursuit. Gilbert would lose the lead on a restart but continue to work his way back to the lead. Gilbert would take the win with Tucker 2nd, Randy Canipe in the #09, Curtis Pardue in the #17, and Rob Lewis in the #98 would round out the top 5.
