Dexter Canipe, Jr. Get Win On Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet HMS Birthday Night presented by Coca Cola/CSC

(July 18th 2015) - Beautiful blue skies would be the order for the evening at Hickory Motor Speedway and Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet Night at the Races presented by Coca-Cola and the Catawba Science Center.

The Classic Sportsman Vintage racers would be the first to hit the track on the warm July evening. Larry Benz in the #4 would draw the pole position and spend much of the race battling for the top spot with the #16 of Bill Webb, the #95 of Eddie Gilbert, and the #2 of Don Fenn. After a hard fought battle the 79 years young Bill Webb would take the win with Benz grabbing the runner up spot. Fenn would draw the last starting position but battle back for third. Dennis Hinkle in the #90 and Gilbert would round out the top 5.

The second event would be the Street Stocks with their 30 lap feature. Cody DeMarmels in the #18 would continue his hot streak by grabbing the pole position in qualifying. At the green flag the race points leader Kevin Eby in the #03 would challenge DeMarmels from the 2nd starting position. DeMarmels would hold off the multiple time track champion and take the win with Eby finishing 2nd. After leaving New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Wayne Edwards in the #31 would make the long drive back home just in time to get to the track for a 3rd place finish with Marshall Sutton in the #64 grabbing 4th. Coming home in 5th would be the #17 of Clint Campbell with his career best HMS finish in only his 4th start.

The always exciting T-Mobile Limited Late Models would eagerly roll off next in their 35 lap feature. Points leader Travis Byrd in the #77 would set the fast time for the division, his 5th pole for the year, with Pat Rachels in the #34 close behind. The drop of the green flag would see mutiple cars battling for position as Monty Cox in the #21, who would return this week after last week's hard crash while leading the race, would suffer engine failure as they were completing lap 1. Cox would make it safely back to the pits but his night would be over. On the restart Byrd would grab the point with Rachels close in tow. Battles would rage throughout the field as the front two would settle the outcome by themselves. Byrd would hold off Rachels, who would finish 2nd, to grab his 5th win of the season and expand his points lead. Mitch Walker in the #29, Kenneth Brooks in the #54, and Anthony Alfredo in the #15 would round out the top 5.

Closing out the night would be the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Bojangles Late Models with the 7th Round of the Paramount Kia 'Big 10' Chase for the Championship with their 100 lap feature. Dexter Canipe Jr. In the #5 would take the top qualifying spot for the feature with Matt Piercy in the #25 to his outside with Landon Huffman in the #75 and Taylor Stricklin in the #7 making up the second row. As the green flag fell Canipe would feel the challenge from Piercy to his outside but use the preferred inside line to take the early lead. L. Huffman would follow Canipe and also look inside Piercy for the position. The points leading pair would battle side by side for several laps before Piercy would nose ahead into 2nd. The first caution would fall on lap 41 as the #4 of Jonathan Findley would spin in turn 4. The restart would see a mirror image of the initial green flag as Canipe would get the top spot while Piercy and L. Huffman would battle side by side several laps for 2 nd until Piercy would take the position for the second time. There would be one final caution flying on lap 75 after contact between the #1 of Andrew Grady and the #7 of Taylor Stricklin which would put both cars in the pits for the remainder of the night. The final restart would once again mirror the first two starts as Canipe was heading to the front while Piercy and L. Huffman did battle once more. After several more laps Piercy would once again nose ahead with L. Huffman hot on his heels. They would go on to finish in the same order with Piercy grabbing 2nd and L. Huffman finishing 3rd but both finishing behind the winner, Canipe, who would grab his 4 th win on the season and 4 wins out of the last 6 races. Rounding out the top 5 would be Mike Darne in the #14 and the #00 of Shane Lee. Also having good runs were Kate Dallenbach in the #25 and Annabeth Barnes in the #12 as they would show the boys that they know how to get the job done in the powerful NASCAR Whelen All American Series Bojangles Late Models with the best of them as both would do battle with their fellow competitors, door to door for many laps. Dallenbach would finish 7th and Barnes 9th.
