Tyler Church gets his 1st NWAAS Late Model victory at Hickory Motor Speedway in the Paramount Kia ‘Big 10' Challenge Series for the Bojangles Late Models.
(Hickory, NC 6/25/16) NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing action returned to Hickory Motor Speedway with A-1 Roofing Night at the Races.
First out of the blocks would be the Renegades and their 20 lap feature. Charlie Neill in the #6 would set the early pace with Kenneth Roberts in the #8 hot on his trail. The pair would remain at the front for the entire race with Neill grabbing the win and Roberts finishing runnerup. Kyle Divanna in the #71, Greg Austin in the #4, and Steve Griffith in the #68 would round out the top 5.
Next on the track would be the Limited Late Models for their 35 lap feature. The #18 of Evan Swilling would start from the point after setting fast time during qualifying and Chase Cabre in the #2 would start just to his outside. After several laps with a spirited battle throughout the field the #29 of Mitch Walker would find himself at the point late in the race and drive onto his first victory at the Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars. Jeremy Pelfrey in the #51 would finish just one position behind in 2nd. Cabre would come back from the rear of the field for jumping the start and post a 3rd place finish. Brendan Doyle in the #23 and Dawson Cram in the #11 would finish off good runs as they would round out the top 5.
The Street Stocks would roar to life next with their 30 lap feature. Kevin Eby in the #03 would look to knock the #10 of Kevin Townsend back a spot or two as the pair would start first and second respectively. Eby would clear Townsend after several laps of side by side action and look like he was headed towards victory. Townsend would have to park after contact would damage the radiator and cause him to receive a rare DNF. Cody DeMarmels in the #18 would sneak up into the battle and look to make his way back to the front. Eventually DeMarmels would move past Eby on his way to the Victory Lane, with his first victory of 2016. Marshall Sutton in the #64 would press DeMarmels in the closing laps but would have to settle for 2nd. Don Machutta in the #52, Chris Werner in the #5, and Mark Whitten in the #77 would round out the top 5.
The Bojangles Late Models would roll off for their 7th installment of the Paramount Kia 'Big 10' Chase for the Championship. Dexter Canipe Jr in the #5 would grab the top spot after qualifying with the #21 of Tyler Church to his outside, the #17 of Ryan Millington and the #6 of Enrique Baca making up row 2. Canipe would take the early lead while Church would keep him within striking distance. After several laps Church decided to try his hand at the front of the field as he slipped by Canipe for the lead. The pair would stay that way for quite a few laps but would see Baca move up to challenge Canipe. As Canipe and Baca would battle for second Church would seize the opportunity and build a cushion between himself and the pair. Canipe would finally pull ahead of Baca but Church's lead would prove insurmountable as he would grab his first ever Late Model victory while Canipe would have to settle for 2nd. Baca would turn an infrequent visit to the Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars into a great 3rd place finish. Millington would press Baca in the closing laps but would be unable to make the pass and finish 4th while Dylan Martin in the #82 would come away with a top 5.
Finishing out the night would be the Super Trucks and their 35 lap feature. Defending track champion Tyler Dayton in the #36 would start from the point with Sheflon Clay in the #15 just to his outside. As the front pair would battle for the top spot there would be a multi-truck battle for 3rd. Dayton would finally take the top spot from Clay and drive on for the win. Clay would pressure Dayton for the top spot but would have to settle for 2nd. After the dust cleared behind the leaders the #30 of Joey Shuryan, the #09 of Dillon Faggart, and the #10 Lee Queen would round out the top 5.
