( May 8, 2010 - Newton, NC ) Earlier this season, Hickory Motor Speedway announced their decision to increase the amount of tires drivers in the Bojangles Late Model division could purchase each week to four new tires. This decision was made due to the limited quantity of late model scuffs needed to successfully manage the two tire program for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car division. This program was initially intended to be temporary, as track staff hoped they would have gathered enough quality scuffs to be successful with the two tire program.
“After careful deliberation, we have decided to continue moving forward with the four tire program during the remainder of the 2010 season,” stated General Manager, Kevin Piercy. “We are doing this to ensure that all drivers who compete in the top series can have an equal opportunity to be competitive.”Due to the tire increase, Hickory Motor Speedway will continue to pay the four tire purse for all of the remaining late model races this season.
